My Story

I’ve been fishing since I was young and started ice fishing about 20 years ago. In the beginning, my equipment consisted of only a 5 gallon bucket, a couple of poles, and a hand auger. Over the years, I accumulated much more equipment including a portable shanty, power auger, heater, fish finder, and tip-ups. All of this made the time on the ice easier and more comfortable. My fish finder came with a round case that would fit inside a 5 gallon bucket. I eventually switched over from the traditional tip-ups to the ones which are round and also fit inside a bucket. The shanty even had two molded areas to transport 5 gallon buckets which made getting all this gear out on the ice easier. However, I was still using 3 small rectangular tackle boxes. One was for small jigs like Rat Finkies and Tear Drop jigs. The second one was for larger tackle such as Jigging Rapallas, Swedish Pimples, and other jigging spoons. And the third was for auxiliary tackle like hooks, weights, and split rings. I also carried along many odd items such as needle-nose pliers, spare spools, and a small tape measure all of which were just thrown in the bottom of the bucket. I wondered if there was a way to store these items to make them easier to transport and more organized. I was contemplating my idea while out ice fishing one day. I looked out of the window in my shanty and saw a friend carrying a 5 gallon bucket in one hand and a tackle box in the other. I realized he could not turn the box on its side, to put inside the bucket, because his tackle would migrate to other compartments. This was the moment that I came up with “The Solution.”

I also vacation to Southwest Florida. While on vacation I do a lot of back water fishing. The tackle box I use has to stand upright in my bucket. This is because a box that can fit flat in the bottom has too small of compartments to hold larger gear. I mainly live bait fish so I need hooks, swivels, leader material, and popping corks. The artificial baits I like to have with are X-Rap Saltwater or Yo-Zuri Live Bait Minnows in green or blue and silver, top water poppers like a Storm Saltwater Rattlin’ Chug Bug, surface walk baits like the Yo-Zuri Banana Boat or Lucky Craft Sammy 128, Johnson Spoons in gold, D.O.A. Shrimp, and some swim baits like Berkley Powerbait Hollow Belly in Blueback Herring. All of this tackle along with my needle-nose pliers and a small tape measure can fit in “The Solution” round tackle box.

Whether I am ice fishing, saltwater fishing, or bank fishing this round tackle is “The Solution.”
